AMD had indirectly confirmed several key specifications of the Navi 21 and Navi 22 through the ROCm 3.8 software update that was released earlier this month. While the company didn’t offer specific details, the actual numbers and data were derived after going through the ROCm update (3.8) features firmware for Navy Flounder. Apparently, the file contained variables defining the configuration of the graphics processors. The same source has now conducted a similar analysis for the Navi 23 GPU as well as upcoming AMD APUs.
Specifications Of Navi 21, Navi 22, and Navi 23 GPUs Leaked?
The next-generation desktop-grade graphics cards, based on AMD RDNA2 architecture, are expected to launch on October 28th, 2020. AMD hasn’t officially confirmed which GPUs it will unveil, but the company did announce it will reveal Radeon RX 6000 series. The same was used to derive information about the upcoming GPUs and APUs such as Compute Unit count, boosts clocks, and power targets. Based on the frequency information, it is apparent the same belongs to the AMD Radeon Pro series. Navi 21, Codenamed Sienna Cichlid, Is Based On Big Navi Architecture: The Navi GPU will reportedly feature up to 80 Compute Units (5120 Stream Processors if each CU has 64 cores). The variant listed in macOS11 appears to have a boost clock at 2050 MHz with Navi 21A variant and up to 2200 MHz with Navi 21B variant. With a boost clock of 2200 MHz, the Navi 21B would have a shader performance of 22.5 TFLOPs. The GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card has a maximum FP32 throughput of 29.8 TFLOPs. Navi 22 – Navy Flounder The mid-tier GPU reportedly features 40 CUs. This is similar to the previous generation, the Navi 10. This means the GPU is expected to be an RDNA2 version of mid-range graphics for the upcoming RX 6700 series. The GPU is listed with a (maximum) GPU clock of 2500 MHz. This is even higher than Navi 21.

Based on the data collected, this GPU would feature 32 CUs (around 2048 Stream Processors). The frequency charts for this entry-level graphics processor are not featured in the firmware yet. Navi 31 Interestingly, the first RDNA3 GPU is also listed inside the firmware. The GPU appears to feature the 80 CUs, which is the same CU count as Navi 21. This means the GPU is essentially a refresh, featuring a new microarchitecture. Simple math indicates the AMD Navi 31 GPU would feature 5120 Stream Processors. It is not clear what AMD’s intentions are with Navi 31, but the company might be testing the same for its AMD Radeon RX 7000 series or perhaps future Radeon Pro SKUs specifically for Apple Mac computers. Apple has traditionally reserved processors and graphics chips from manufacturers, and this could be the case with Navi 31.
Upcoming AMD APUs:
Besides the Navi 21, Navi 22, Navi 23, and even Navi 31, the leak also includes information about AMD’s upcoming APUs. AMD Cezanne is the upcoming ZEN 3 based mobile architecture, which features an identical core configuration to ZEN 2-based Renoir. The AMD Van Gogh, however, would be the first CPU Series to feature RDNA 2 embedded graphics. This APU would feature the same number of CUs as Renoir and Cezanne, which is up to 8 Cores.
