A leaked slide from the alleged ‘Where Gaming Begins’ press deck offers a glimpse into the memory overclocking on next-generation AMD Ryzen 5000 Series processors. Additionally, the slide also explains the differences between three memory-related internal clocks that this new generation of AMD CPUs will have.
AMD Ryzen 5000 Series To Have Three Different Memory-Related Internal Clock Speeds With Equal Ratios:
According to the leaked slide, the upcoming AMD Ryzen 5000 Series of CPUs will have three internal clock speeds which are related to the memory being used inside the computer. These are as follows:
Infinity Fabric Clock (FCLK): Will govern how quickly CPU cores can communicate across CPU dies and with SoC controller (e.g. PCIe, SATA, USB)Memory Controller Clock (UCLK): Will govern how quickly the memory controller can ingest/exgest commands from RAMMemory Clock (MCLK): The frequency of the main system memory
The new ZEN 3 Core Architecture will feature 1:1:1 ratio for each clock speeds. These can be configured based on the memory speeds of the RAM that is installed in the PC. For example, if the computer has DDR4-3600 MHz RAM then the CPU’s internal clock speeds will be set at 1800 MHz for FCLK, UCLK, and MCLK. In the case of the AMD Ryzen 4000 Renoir, the desktop-grade CPUs had a 1:1 FCLK ratio when it comes to memory and memory overclocking support. While lower clocked DDR4 memory will certainly work with the new AMD Ryzen 500 Series, users buying DDR4-4000 MHz Memory kits should expect great performance and even higher overclocking capabilities. In other words, there won’t be bottlenecking of performance with the DDR-4000 Mhz RAM working with AMD Ryzen 5000 Series CPUs.
