Amidst this chaos, YouTuber ElAnalistaDeBits actually played the game like a normal person and enjoyed his weekend. Just kidding. He played the beta on all current-gen consoles to monitor and analyze the differences between each platform. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S were all pitted against each other in a comparison to see who reigns superior. His findings paint quite the interesting picture.

In the video attached above, apart from the glorious music, we can see that the Xbox Series S version of the game is very clearly inferior to both Xbox Series X and PS5. This is to be expected as the console is much cheaper and less powerful than others on the list. There are notable differences in shadow detail, texture, lighting and resolution in the Series S version, however it’s not to the point where it jumps out. The difference is apparent only when compared against the big dogs. That being said, the real takeaway from the video is that the average resolution is slightly higher on Xbox Series X compared to the PlayStation 5. Both consoles are using temporal reconstruction for the horizontal pixels, which basically means that the game is being actively upscaled to maintain a constant output resolution. The render resolution, on the other hand, fluctuates between 2160p and 1620p on both consoles. The video description mentions several other findings that shed light on the comparison even more:

PS5 and Series X have the same dynamic range (2160p~1620p), but Series X has a higher average resolution. S series has a dynamic range from 1440p to a resolution of approximately 900p.The beta presents some bugs related to pop-in, bugged assets and errors in textures, especially in Series X version at 120hz.Same shadows, textures, amount of foliage and particles on the 3 platforms. Playstation 5 has better resolution in reflections.Slightly smaller drawing distance in Series S.Series X has the depth of field disabled at some points. All versions run smoothly at a stable 60FPS.Xbox Series has problems maintaining 120FPS in some moments (especially in the Hotel), in addition to tearing. This is likely to change in the final version.

As you can tell from that description, the game is not actually out yet. All this information is based off a beta that is not indicative of final release. So, everything you see in the video and read in this article should be taken with a grain of salt. Activision and Sledgehammer Games will likely fix most, if not all, of the bugs and issues seen in this beta in time for November 5 release. It’s also important to note that the game is coming out on previous-gen consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, as well which will certainly hold the game back from reaching its full potential. Hopefully such a limitation doesn’t tether the developers and they’re able to release a solid product at the end. If you own a PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PS4 or PS5, you can download the game and play the beta for free all weekend long.
