We recently reviewed the Corsair Glaive Pro and found it to be a stellar mouse that is fit for different use cases and comes with the excellent build quality. However, if you are familiar with Corsair’s naming product release scheme, you will realize that this is not the first time a mouse named Corsair Glaive has hit the market. Corsair released the Glaive a few years ago, as well. The Glaive Pro is an upgraded version of the mouse. This brings us to wonder whether the new and improved Glaive Pro is any better than its predecessor or not. Considering how we have already reviewed the mouse and definitely recommended it to those who play FPS and MOBA games, our focus here is to compare the original with the successor and see if it warrants an upgrade. As always, the comparison between two mice will span across different departments such as sensor, build quality, software experience, comfort, and design. So, without further ado, let’s have a look.

The Sensor

The first and perhaps the most important aspect of a mouse is the sensor that goes inside it. Gamers are becoming more and more peculiar about the sensor that they want in their gaming mice and manufacturers have to keep up with the ever so growing and changing demand. Thankfully, the sensor in the Corsair Glaive Pro is no slouch at all; the mouse uses an optical PixArt PMW3391 sensor that has the capabilities of going from 1 DPI to 18,000 DPI. Yes, you can actually change the DPI with the increments of 1, and whether this is a feature that most people desire or not is something that we are not aware of. Additionally, the sensor is extremely accurate, and if you are someone who plays first person shooters a lot, this sensor is definitely worth the hype. On the other hand, the original Glaive uses the legendary PixArt 3367 sensor at its core. This sensor is known to be one of the most accurate ones available in the market, and the best part is that the accuracy is almost as good as the one that the Glaive Pro comes with. However, the sensor here tops at 16,000 DPI. The conclusion is rather simple to draw, the Corsair Glaive Pro certainly has a better sensor when compared to its predecessor. However, the one thing that we cannot gauge is the difference between both sensors in real-world applications. Winner: Corsair Glaive Pro.

Build Quality

Considering how you will not just use the mouse for the sake of gaming. It is an essential component of your PC, and you will be using it nearly every single day, it needs to have a good build quality. Corsair, as a company, has always prided itself for being one of the top companies with great build qualities and this does not change here. The build quality of the Corsair Glaive Pro is just as good as the original Corsair Glaive. Not much has changed, to be honest. But as they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Corsair has maintained the same overall build quality, and we cannot really a complaint. However, the one good thing here is that the Corsair Glaive Pro is slightly lighter than the original, weighing at 115 grams. While this is not the lightest mouse available in the market, for most FPS gamers, this is the sweet spot. While there is no denying that both mice are great when it comes to the build quality thanks to them being identical. The Corsair Glaive Pro takes the cake due to being slightly lighter than the original. Winner: Corsair Glaive Pro.

Software Experience

When choosing a mouse or any other peripheral, this is normally one of the few factors that we overlook a lot, and that is the software experience. Sure, if the mouse does not have any software, to begin with, then it is all right. However, most modern day gaming mice do come with a software suite that you can use to fine tune the mouse to your experience. The Corsair Glaive Pro and Glaive use Corsair’s iCUE. A software that is notorious, to be honest. At first glance, it looks clean and intuitive; however, there are some complications that people find themselves in. The software is not the easiest one available in the market, but if you get over the learning curve, it should not create any issues for you. Needless to say, none of the mice are better than the other simply because they use the same software for the purpose of configuration. Winner: None.

Comfort

If a mouse is not comfortable enough, using it can become an ordeal that I do not want to go through. I am sure that my gamer brethren can relate to that more than anything else. After all, how else are we going to engage in long battles if we do not have a good and comfortable mouse? The Corsair Glaive Pro takes the same route as the original Glaive with magnetic side panels that you can swap out. You can change them based on your preferred grip style. Corsair has done a better job this time and improved them very subtly. They are more angled this time around for a better grip and are covered in textured rubber to ensure that you can have a good grip even when your hands are sweating. The Corsair Glaive, on the other hand, has no issues with comfort. The change is ever so slight, so it can be a hard sell for many. However, we have to appreciate Corsair Glaive Pro for coming with changes that we did not expect as there are little things that make a lot of changes in such cases. Winner: Corsair Glaive Pro.

Design

Although the design of the mouse is something that not many people look at whenever they are buying one in the market, it does happen to be one of the most important ones for many. After all, you do not want your mouse to look out of fashion when the rest of your PC costs more than $2,000. Thankfully, the design on both the Corsair Glaive Pro and the original is great. It is not too forward as it still has some understated elements but as far as the looks are concerned, you are certainly getting a mouse that looks great. I love the matte finish on the top and sides of the mouse that makes it look so much neutral and cleaner. Winner: None.

Conclusion

Now that we have gone through the comparison in detail, it is time for the conclusion. Quite frankly, I have to say that drawing the conclusion was not that difficult. The Corsair Glaive Pro is inherently the better mouse from the two. However, if you already have the original Glaive and it is working just as good, still. There is no need to upgrade. However, if you own a mouse that is finally giving up, and you are looking to find a new gaming mouse, then going for Corsair Glaive Pro is definitely a great choice as it happens to be a great mouse.
