Today, Steam has added an official page for Elden Ring. This addition confirms the fact that the game will, in fact, be released on Steam. Before, the general speculation around the game seemed to point at an Epic Games Store exclusive release. The reason behind this was the lack of a dedicated page on Steam for the game. This led many fans to believe that yet another major AAA title has been swooped under the radar and has become an Epic Games Store exclusive. But, now we know that isn’t the case. The Steam page lists the release date of Elden Ring as 20th January, 2022-a day before the game’s international release. More importantly though, now that we have a Steam page for the game, the supposed system requirements of Elden Ring have been revealed. The requirements are relatively humble, especially considering the demands of an average AAA game these days.

In a world of next-gen games rocking raytracing and cutting-edge graphics, the minimum and recommended system requirements for Elden Ring seem almost too good to be true. The game will supposedly have a size of 150GB, which falls in line with most AAA titles of the current times. Games like Call Of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War, Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, Microsoft Flight Simulator and more, all have a total size of over 150GB. What doesn’t fall in line with those games though is the hardware requirements, in particular the CPU and GPU recommendations. The recommended GPU is a GTX 1060—the most popular graphics card according to Steam’s hardware survey. This means that Elden Ring will be accessible to a much wider audience than any other recent AAA game. After all, Elden Ring will get released on previous-gen consoles, i.e., Xbox One and PS4, as well so it makes sense that FromSoftware is optimizing the game for lower-end hardware. In the end, it’s a win-win situation for budget gamers as they get to enjoy a latest release on their outdated hardware, that too on recommended settings. The rest of the specs are pretty bog-standard which is, again, surprising for a game of this scale and stature.  That being said, it has to be noted that these requirements, while extremely reasonable, are most likely placeholder requirements. That means they can still change before release to reflect the actual requirements of the game. Similarly, these could also be the actual system requirements. We don’t have confirmation yet so nothing can be said. What I can tell you, though, is that these specs are a carbon copy of the Red Dead Redemption 2 system requirements, which does allude towards the notion that these will change over time. But, since the game is being developed for last-gen consoles as well, it wouldn’t be a surprise if these requirements do turn out to be true. You can see how these specs are in quite the ambiguous position right now.
