You can easily print a document double sided in MAC by performing little changes in the Print dialog box and you can also set the double sided printing as default just as easily. But before that you have to know if you will be doing the double sided printing automatically or manually. All Multifunction Printers support automatic duplexing and generally if your Printer’s model name has the letter “d” in it, then it supports automatic double sided printing too, e.g. HP Laserjet Pro M425dn. Otherwise, you will have to manually print a double sided document by handling the pages a little while printing.
Automatic Double Sided Printing
To print a document double sided, Open that document. Click on File on the menu bar on top. Now Click Print in the drop down menu. Print dialog box will open. Next to Printer, Select your Printer on which you want to print the double sided document. Click on the third Drop down menu just below the Presets options. Select Layout from that menu. Now, next to the Two-Sided option, Select Long-Edge binding if you want to print the double sided document in a Booklet form. Or you can Select Short-Edge binding if you want to print it in a Tabular form. If you cannot see the Two-Sided option than your printer does not support Automatic double sided printing. Move on to the section below that shows you how to do that manually. If this is the only time you want to print a double sided document, simply Click Print. But if you want to print a double sided document automatically every time you print, then Open the Drop Down menu next to Presets and Click Save as. Give it a Name, for example Duplex and Click OK. Click Print to print the document and from now on every print job will be double sided by default.
Manual Double Side Printing
If your printer does not support automatic double sided printing you will not be able to find the Two-Sided printing option. But you can do it manually. To do so, Open that Document. Click on File on the menu bar on top. Now Click Print in the drop down menu. Print dialog box will open. Next to Printer, Select your Printer on which you want to print the double sided document. Click on the third Drop down menu, below the Presets options. Select Page Handling. Next to Print, Select Even numbered pages and click Print. When the document finishes printing, Remove excess pages from the input tray. Now take out the printed documents from the output tray and load them back in the input tray. NOTE that if the Input Tray is on the Rear Side of the printer then Place them in the input tray with Blank Side of pages Facing Away from you and the Printed Side facing Towards you and the Top Edge of the Page going into the printer first. And If the Input Tray is in the Front of the printer, then Place them in the input tray with Blank Side facing Towards you and the Printed Side Facing Away from you and the Top Edge of the page going into the printer first. Open the Print dialog box again and select Page Handling from the Drop Down menu. This time select Odd numbered pages next to the Print option. NOTE that of the input tray is on the Rear Side of the printer then make sure Automatic is selected next to Page Order. If the Input tray is in the front of the printer, then Select Reverse next to Page Order. Now click Print.
